Why I joined:
I discovered Literacy Initiative the summer before my freshmen year and soon decided to volunteer with the organization at a fundraiser. After only a matter of hours, the warm enviorment caused me to feel connected to this group of people I had never met before. Soon after, I began participating in the Books and Cookies program, providing free after school educational programming for economically disadvantaged students. Joining this program, I hoped to benefit lives of the students through teaching, but they taught me more than I ever could have expected. Through this program I got the opportunity to build friendships with younger students. I laughed at their jokes, helped them learn to love to read, and most importantly listened to their stories and supported them through difficult times. I have met some of the most remarkable people I have ever known through this program, and I am determined to do whatever I can to help them reach their full potential.
Delaney Nold (She/Her)
Director of Virtual Programming
Delaney joined Literacy Initiative in the spring of 2020. She is currently 17 years old and a Senior at Prospect High School in Chicago, Illinois.

Why I joined:
I believe in giving back to those around me as it makes me the best version of myself. The Literacy Initiative has allowed me to give back to youth, who often don't have access to programs and support outside of school, from all over the world. I have met the most intelligent and compassionate young students through our E-Camp and virtual mentorship programs and feel extremely grateful to be given this opportunity.
