The Literacy Initiative prides itself on being run solely by high school students. Therefore, all of our volunteers are high school students that are passionate about making an impact in the St. Louis and Memphis communities.
2019-2020 School Year Volunteer Opportunities
Books & Cookies Volunteer - During meetings, the duty of each volunteer is to work with the students on various icebreaker (ex. Charades, Wax Museum) and reading activities. All volunteers will need to undergo volunteer training prior to this program.
Volunteer Requirements
Books & Cookies Chapter Leader - The duty of a chapter leader is to come up with an agenda and make sure that there are enough supplies prior to each meeting. During the meetings, chapter leaders must make sure that volunteers understand the agenda for the meeting and will work with the students on various icebreaker (ex. Charades, Wax Museum) and reading activities. All chapter leaders will need to undergo volunteer training prior to this program.

- Volunteers are expected to volunteer once per week for one hour during the fall season. Available days/times include: weekdays between 4:00-5:00PM, weekdays between 6:00-7:30PM, and Saturday mornings between 10:00-11:00AM.
- Volunteers must be in grades 9-12.
