Virtual STEAM Night: Science

About: Virtual STEAM Nights are meant to provide teens with the opportunity to learn more about majors/minors and opportunities within various areas in STEAM. Presenters: Alexis - Rising Senior at Vanderbilt University Alexis is a rising senior double majoring in Philosophy and Molecular Biology. As the first person in her family to go to college, she was initially unsure of how to navigate choosing a major and originally intended to study biomedical engineering before discovering a passion for helping others and setting out on a pre-med path. Since her freshman year, she has also been heavily involved in research studying antibiotic resistance and recommends those interested in pursuing a science degree get involved in a lab as soon as possible. Sophie Jabban - Junior at the University of Pennsylvania Sophie plans to graduate with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry and hopes to apply to medical school after graduation. On campus, she is a peer tutor and volunteers in a cell biology lab researching a mechanism of cancer growth. Anjali Devgan - Junior at University of Southern California Anjali is currently studying Health and Human Sciences and Gerontology. She is applying to medical school soon, and in the meantime is a teacher for chemistry and a research assistant in a molecular biology lab. Besides academics, she loves watching USC Trojan football games, volunteering at senior homes, and playing with her two German Shepherd dogs! Ryan Francis - Junior at University of Missouri - Columbia Ryan is currently studying Fisheries and Wildlife Management with a minor in Captive Wild Animal Management. He hopes to work in exotic conservation one day and his dream job is to work for the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Institute. His inspiration is Steve Irwin, and Ryan hopes to make as big of an impact in Wildlife Conservation as Steve did. FRIDAY, may 1
